The reason I smiled today

A Robin lands on a branch of a tree
In a forest of pencils and warm coffee
A gherkin is consumed that swims like a fish
A shooting star flashes and offers a wish
A queen sits proudly upon her throne
Her mind consumed with dreams of home
A pop star dances and giggles all night
While a heroine slays aliens in a sci-fi fight
Ten toes wriggle in the hands of a friend
With conversations that can never offend
A word from a song makes a tear in her eye
So she says “see you soon” and never goodbye
A lion falls asleep in a little girl’s lap
As a man finds a package which he slowly unwraps
A lonely heart flutters and its doubt melts away
This was the reason I smiled today.
